Refit 2008/09
Thendara in Villefranche sur Mer
Right after the racing in St Tropez we prepared Thendara for her refit in Villefranche.
The old lady needed a complete new paint dress and a close inspection of her hull.
This was done in the Old Radoub of Villefranche sur Mer, a picturesque town with a dry dock already used by Napoleon.
Thendara’s draught of 4 meters made it complicated to put her into the basin, therefore it was necessary to take out her masts and lift her with buoyancy balloons installed by divers. Once the basin was emptied a cocoon and scaffolding were built around her.
The old paint was stripped, underwater and top sides. The nice surprise was that the teak planking was all in all in very good condition, and only a few minor repairs had to be carried out by the carpenters.
After 12 weeks she has been repainted and looks stunning !
On the 22nd of January she has gone back into the water and we are now working on rigging and spars, varnishes, leathers and engineering to get her ship shape for the season.
We would like to thank all the teams involved for their hard work and dedication, as well as all the people from the Port of Villefranche in general, who have been very kind and helpful.
